Octogenarians, luxurious nursing home and a murder what’s not to love?
A fun well written read and characters you’ll grow to love, a fast-paced book with plenty to keep the reader engrossed till the closing sentence. At times in the beginning, I was worried I would never be able to connect to any of the characters as there seemed to be plenty to choose from all with detailed backgrounds. But I have been proven wrong and am already eagerly awaiting the sequel, as I love them all.
“It was a well-known fact that there were no calories in homemade cakes.”
― Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club
The book is written in the form of a diary, I was rather hoping it would be set out a little more like one, but I also appreciate this might have been on purpose as this diary was written by a novice, and I felt rather welcomed as a fellow novice to the Thursday Murder Club. I hope I’m that cool when I’m their age, no knit and natter club for me!
You’ll think you know who done it but then add in a well thought out and well delivered plot twist. When it comes to the plot twist, I applaud author Richard Osman for not revealing it too early.
The short chapters here make the book a standout for a weekend read recommendation, don’t worry the detail is not missing from this story because of this. I believe it only added to my enthusiasm to keep reading.
“In life you have to learn to count the good days. You have to tuck them in your pocket and carry them around with you. So, I’m putting today in my pocket and I’m off to bed.”
― Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club
The Thursday Murder Club is funny and light-hearted for the most part, but it does also touch on some heavier subjects like grief and the inevitable departure from earthside which we all must face at some time. I read a lot of books, but I can’t remember the last book that was clever, relatable, and had characters I wish to spend hours within the jigsaw room I can’t wait till September For The Sequel The Man Who Died Twice
