Synopsis

Leigh Fletcher: happily married step mum to two gorgeous boys goes missing on Monday. Her husband Mark says he knows nothing of her whereabouts. She simply went to work and just never came home. Their family is shattered.

Kai Janssen: married to wealthy Dutch businessman, Daan, vanishes the same week. Kai left their luxurious penthouse and glamourous world without a backward glance. She seemingly evaporated into thin air. Daan is distraught.

DC Clements knows that people disappear all the time – far too frequently. Most runaway from things, some run towards, others are taken but find their way back. A sad few never return. These two women are from very different worlds, their disappearances are unlikely to be connected. And yet, at a gut level, the DC believes they are.

How could these women walk away from their families, husbands and homes willingly? Clements is determined to unearth the truth, no matter how shocking and devastating it may be.

Review

Leigh Fletcher is a happily married wife and step mum to her husband Mark and his two boys; Leigh’s life is filled with the day-to-day activities as well as a busy career. However once day in March Leigh goes to work and doesn’t return, Leigh’s disappearance leaves a crack in the once strong Fletcher family foundation.

Kai and Daan Janssen are happily married, the pair enjoy the finer things in life with no children to care for. Daan being the main breadwinner so when Daan discovers that Kai is missing he’s distraught she wouldn’t just leave him, them, what they have, who has taken his wife?

DC Clements has been doing this job long enough to know people disappear all the time, far to often some people run from other people and situations in their life towards others, perhaps a more enjoyable and hopeful outcome she knows some are lucky to return home but unfortunately some never returned to their families and the lives they once lived. It’s because of this DC Clements puts all her energy into finding these women no matter what she might discover during her investigation.

I’ve recently discovered a love of Domestic Mystery and Thrillers, so when I discovered author Adele Parks was releasing her latest book and remembering just how much I loved her previous novel Just My Luck I knew I had to add it my collection. My hopes were high for a fast page turning character-based thriller that will leave you wanting more.

In this readers opinion the overall plot was easily unveiled, however this didn’t really tarnish the story overall for me in anyway, it made what felt like the already rushed ending even more noticeable.

One thing I noticed when starting Adele Parks novel this time around was just how much I was missing her talents when it comes to putting pen to paper, in my opinion her strength is writing relatable people in relatable situations whilst having the ability to weave a story you won’t forget and recommend to others.

I never thought I would say that about the Mystery Thriller genre and whilst I’ll never seek out a read that leaves my heart thumping, I appreciate Adele Parks ability to detail both marriages whilst keeping the plot moving.

Although I wouldn’t agree with all of Leigh’s life choices, I felt like I knew her and for the most part found her to be a likeable character, I found the character of Mark to be underdeveloped, this made me feel detached to him as a reader. However, the character of Daan seemed to have a spotlight on all sides of him.

If you’re a fan of a domestic drama this winter look no further then Both of you.
